We are pleased to announce the fifth biennial conference of Asialex-2007 is to be held in Chennai from December 6 through 8, 2007, hosted by the University of Madras. We welcome and encourage participation of not only ASIALEX members but also any worldwide researchers in applied linguistics who are interested in lexicographic studies and dictionary-making. This conference will provide opportunities for you to examine the Asian Lexicography from not only the retrospective, but also from the prospective perspectives. Moreover it will provide opportunities for you to share and discuss recent research trends and results with other interested participants, and explore goals for the future.
 
     
 
We welcome you to Asialex-2007 Chennai and expect many participants from countries and regions beyond the national boundary. The 5th Biennial Conference of the Asian Association for Lexi-cography (ASIALEX) is to be held in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India under the auspices of the University of Madras during Decem-ber 6-8, 2007. The general theme for the Asialex-2007 is ASIAN LEXICOGRAPHY: RETROSPECT AND PROSPECT.

The University of Madras is one of the three oldest universities of India established in 1857. It is known for its dictionaries, especially the Tamil Lexicon (1924-39) among other things. As part of its year long 150th year celebrations, the Asialex 2007 is organized. As the General Secretary of the Lexicographical Society of India (LxSI) , Prof. V. Jayadevan conducted the 2nd International Conference on Indian Lexicography during March 21-23, 2005. He is at present revising the Tamil Lexicon.
